Has superb overall muscle tone, with limber legs and long arms … Has an array of moves off the snap, using his hands well to get a strong push off the defenders to prevent the jam … Deep threat who has a smooth, effortless, gliding style running with the ball … Excellent leaper who uses his size to shield defenders from the ball … Crisp in his routes, showing the balance and agility to easily slip through the zone … Holds the ball securely after the catch and will extend aggressively in traffic to get to the ball … Explosive out of his cuts, showing good concentration … Very loose in his movements, making quick stops and starts while displaying nimble stutter-step moves … Looks effortless making the over-the-shoulder grabs, extending his hands away from the framework while doing an excellent job of keeping track of the ball in flight … Fluid route runner in the intermediate area, showing great body control to vary his speed in order to get behind the safeties … Shifts gears in an instant and knows how to use his body to shield defenders … Has that explosive second gear to elude in the open and the vision awareness to know when to come back when the quarterback is pressured … Uses his frame and strong hands well to get a push off the line.

Regarded as one of the game's most electrifying receivers, able to change the outcome of a contest with his big-play ability … An emotional leader who is not afraid to confront teammates for a lack of effort, he is able to stretch the defense with his deceptive speed and has also developed into a very effective punt returner … Started 29 of 33 games he's appeared in … Finished his career with 173 receptions for 3,061 yards (17.7 avg) and 30 touchdowns … Only Latef Grim (178, 1998-2000) had more catches in a career for Pitt … His 3,061 yards broke the previous school career record of 3,003 yards by Dietrich Jells (1991-95) … His 30 touchdowns broke Pittsburgh's old all-time record of 24, first set by Dwight Collins (1980-83) and matched by Jells … Added 388 yards on 44 punt returns (8.8 avg).

2001 SEASON

All-American Dream Team selection and rated the best receiver prospect in the country by The NFL Draft Report … Earned All-Big East Conference first-team honors for the second straight year despite missing early-season action with a nagging high ankle sprain that would hamper him throughout the year … Played in 10 games, starting nine contests at split end … Led the team with 42 receptions for 659 yards (15.7 avg) and nine touchdowns … Had 28 punt returns for 207 yards (7.4 avg) … Averaged 86.6 all-purpose yards per game.

 

  • East Tennessee - Only on the field for three plays before leaving with a high ankle sprain.
  • South Florida - Did not play (ankle).
  • Miami - Was expected to sit out the game, but came off the bench to catch 3 passes for 39 yards.
  • Notre Dame - Returned to the starting lineup, snaring 6 passes for 95 yards and a 32-yard touchdown.
  • Syracuse - Followed with 3 catches for 74 yards and 6 punt returns for 75 yards.
  • Temple - Grabbed 5 passes for 38 yards, including a 6-yard score and returned a pair of punts for 39 yards.
  • Virginia Tech - Had 5 receptions for 93 yards with touchdowns of 24 and 36 yards, adding 26 yards on 5 punt returns.
  • Rutgers - Finally returning to close to full health, he exploded for 107 yards on 5 catchres with 9-, 13- and 28-yard touchdowns.
  • West Virginia - After reading unflattering comments by Mountaineer cornerback Richard Bryant (no relation) in the papers, he proceeded to teach his opponent a lesson, as he hauled in 11 passes for 186 yards with a 27-yard touchdown and return 5 punts for 36 yards … His 11 receptions rank sixth on the school's game-record list while his 186 yards rank seventh (owns four of the top seven game marks).
  • Alabama-Birmingham - Followed with a 6-yard scoring grab.
  • North Carolina State (Tangerine Bowl) - Named the game's MVP as he had 7 receptions for 101 yards, including touchdowns of 2 and 15 yards.

2000 SEASON

Consensus All-American and unanimous All-Big East Conference first-team choice … Big East tri-Offensive Player of the Year … Recipient of the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation's top receiver (Joined Marshall's Randy Moss, 1997, as the only sophomores to ever win that honor) … Eastern College Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year … First sophomore since Craig Heyward (1987) to earn consensus All-American accolades … Started 10 games, catching a career-high 68 passes for 1,302 yards (19.1 avg) and 11 touchdowns … His 1,302 yards set a school season record, topping the old mark of 1,106 yards by Latef Grim in 1999 … Returned 16 punts for 181 yards (11.3 avg) … Averaged 148.3 all-purpose yards per game … His 1,302 yards receiving were the third most in college football during the 2000 campaign … 27 of his catches were for 25 yards or longer … Gained over 100 yards receiving in seven contests.

1999 SEASON

Freshman first-team All-American by SportsPage.com, earning second-team honors from Football News and third-team accolades from The Sporting News … Played in 11 games, starting eight of the team's final nine contests (came off the bench vs. Temple) at split end … Caught 51 passes for 844 yards (16.5 avg) and six touchdowns.

High … Caught 53 passes for 953 yards (17.9 avg) and 12 touchdowns to lead the team to the Florida Class 6A championship and a fourth-place ranking in the nation, according to USA Today, as the team went 16-0 in 1998 … Three-year team captain … Rated the best prospect in the Southeast region by Blue Chip Illustrated … Played in the Dade County All-Star Game … Also lettered in track (twice) … Scholar-athlete, graduating with honors.
