Position: Offensive Guard/Center  College: Colorado  Height: 6-4  Weight: 316

Has a big frame with a barrel chest, thick arms and muscular legs … Gains advantage on the defender with his sudden moves off the snap … Fires out low and gets his arms up quickly, using his exceptional power to deliver a sudden force to rock the defenders back … Very light on his feet for a player his size, quickly gaining position to sustain and finish his blocks … Excellent on the trap and pull, getting to the second level in a flash to easily neutralize the linebackers … Shows impressive balance and proper use of his hands to position and cut off when making downfield adjustments … Has the strong set-and-punch ability to stop the pass rush charge and the foot agility to slide and adjust while mirroring the rusher’s moves … Uses his hands to control … Plays flat-footed, displaying the flexibility needed to laterally slide to gain movement off the snap … Has experience at guard and could shift there at the pro level to take advantage of his quickness working in space … Very effective turning up and sealing and has the leg drive to run and impact at the edge.

CAREER NOTES

One of the premier blockers in the country … "In my opinion, there is not a better lineman in this league than Andre Gurode," is what Colorado line coach Steve Marshall said about him … A versatile lineman, he has starting experience at both guard positions, in addition to playing center … Has allowed only 7.5 quarterback sacks in 2,653 plays of action.

2001 SEASON

All-America first-team selection by The NFL Draft Report, Associated Press, ABC Sports, CNN/SI and The Sporting News … Unanimous All-Big 12 Conference choice, pacing a balanced offensive attack that averaged 228.5 yards per game rushing and 205.9 yards passing (only the third time in school history that both the ground game and aerial attack averaged over 200 yards each in the same season) … Graded 88.7 percent for blocking consistency as he registered 112 knockdowns, topped the team with 21 touchdown-resulting blocks and made 48 blocks downfield … Earned Victory Club (top performances) in eight contests and picked up team Player of the Week honors vs. Kansas, Kansas State, Texas, Iowa State and Nebraska … Started every game at "tight" (right) guard.

  • Kansas - Registered a season-high 15 knockdowns, cut blocking nose guard Nate Dwyer on a 7-yard touchdown run by tailback Chris Brown and later leveled linebacker Alge Atkinson upfield to spring Brown for a 40-yard scoring scamper as the team totaled 338 yards on the ground.
  • Kansas State - Added 10 knockdowns, including one that brought down linebacker Ben Leber on a 21-yard scoring strike from QB Craig Ochs to Daniel Graham.
  • Iowa State - Brought down nose guard Willie Judd with a crunching forearm blast on a 50-yard touchdown pass from QB Bobby Pesavento to Cortlen Johnson as the Buffs gained 502 yards.
  • Nebraska - Added 13 knockdowns, executing a roll block to drop defensive end Chad Kelsey as Brown turned the right corner for a 12-yard scoring run and the offense picked up 582 yards.
  • Texas (Big 12 Championship) - Followed with 14 knockdowns … Walled off linebacker D.D. Lewis on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Pesavento to Graham as the team amassed 334 yards.
  • Oregon (Fiesta Bowl) - Shoved linebacker Wesley Mallard to the ground, clearing a path used by Brandon Drumm for a 1-yard touchdown run.

2000 SEASON

Earned first-team All-Big 12 Conference honors from the league’s coaches and Football News, adding second-team accolades from the Associated Press … Won the John Mack Award, as selected by the coaches for being CU’s most outstanding offensive player … Started the first six games of the year at center, and then moved over and started the final five at tight guard … Played the second most snaps on offense, 771, and led the team in domination blocks (74), touchdown blocks (9), downfield blocks (23) and great pass protection plays (10) … Graded 87.4 percent for blocking consistency as the offense averaged 362.0 yards per game.

1999 SEASON

Earned honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference honors from the league’s coaches … Started all year at center, playing the second-most snaps from scrimmage on the team (789) and graded out to 86.3 percent for the year … Also second in knockdown blocks (76), tied for first in touchdown-resulting blocks (24) along with eight downfield blocks … Allowed three sacks and three hurries and was called for six penalties.

1998 SEASON

Entered the fall listed first at right offensive guard, but was switched to center during fall drills … Suffered a setback in the Fresno State game, tearing cartilage in a knee that forced him to miss the next six games … Returned to start vs. Missouri, Nebraska and Oregon in the Aloha Bowl … In five regular season games he played 239 snaps, with 26 knockdowns, six touchdown blocks and three downfield blocks … Allowed just one quarterback sack, one pressure and was called for only one penalty in grading out to 81.6 percent for blocking consistency … Credited with a season-high 13 knockdowns vs. Colorado State.

1997 SEASON

Redshirted as a freshman … Practiced the entire fall at offensive guard … Won the Offensive Scout Award as selected by the coaching staff following the season.

5.34 in the 40-yard dash … 3.14 in the 20-yard dash … 1.89 in the 10-yard dash … 5.05 in the 20-yard shuttle … 8.15 in the three-cone drill … 0 1/2-inch vertical jump … 8'4" broad jump … 458-pound bench press … 641-pound squat … 330-pound power clean … 35-inch arm length … 11-inch hands … Right-handed… Added over 30 pounds to his frame since arriving on campus as a freshman.

HIGH SCHOOL

As a senior, he was a PrepStar and SuperPrep All-American, with USA Today selecting him honorable mention at North Shore (Houston, Texas) High … Named to the prestigious Houston Chronicle Top 100 List, and made the equally credible Austin American-Statesman "Fab 55" team (No. 44 overall, and the No. 5 offensive lineman) … PrepStar placed him on its "Dream Team," the No. 15 lineman in the nation, and the No. 10 overall prospect in Texas (and the No. 2 offensive lineman) … Member of Texas Football’s Top 30, the fourth lineman) … Earned first-team All-Area honors as a senior (second team as a junior), and was first-team All-District (22 5A) and first-team All-Greater Houston as a junior and senior (when he also was his team’s most outstanding offensive lineman) … Second-team All-District as a sophomore … As a senior, he owned better than an 86 percent blocking grade, with 67 pancake blocks, and allowed just one sack … Blocked for two backs that gained a combined 3,200 yards … Played some defensive tackle for the first time in his career as well, as he was in on 61 tackles (16 solos), with 6.5 quarterback sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 16 hurries and two forced fumbles … As a junior, he graded out to 89 percent, with 54 pancake blocks, and allowed just three sacks … As a sophomore, he owned a 79 percent grade, with 33 pancakes and five sacks allowed … Also lettered three times in basketball, and lettered four times in track (throws; he owns personal bests of 186-0 in the discus and 54-1 in the shot put) … Was his team’s most improved track athlete as a sophomore … Owned a 3.1 grade point average and won third place in a drafting competition for intermediate computer design as a junior … Selected as one of the school’s most improved students his junior year.
