Head Coach - Dave Campo
Dave Campo became the fifth head coach in Cowboys history on Jan
26. Campo joined the Cowboys as the team's secondary coach in 1989 and was promoted to
defensive coordinator in 1995. The Cowboys defense was ranked among the NFL's top 10 three
times under the direction of Campo. In 1999, the defense ranked ninth in the league (third
in the NFC) in total yards and allowed one touchdown or less in nine of the 16 regular
season games.
Before coming to Dallas, Campo spent two years as the University
of Miami's secondary coach. At Miami, he helped the Hurricanes to a two-year record of
23-1 and a national title in 1987, while fine tuning the talents of the best defensive
back in school history.
Campo began his coaching career at his alma mater, Central
Connecticut State (1971-72 seasons), where he was a defensive back from 1967-70. He then
moved to Albany State (1973), Bridgeport (1974), the University of Pittsburgh (1975),
Washington State (1976), Boise State (1977-79), Oregon State (1980), Weber State (1981-82)
and Iowa State (1983). He spent three seasons at Syracuse before heading to Miami.
